The Information Technology (IT) Department plays a critical role in supporting WASCO’s strategic and operational functions. The team of five (5) ensures that all digital infrastructure, systems, and services run smoothly, securely, and efficiently.

The core functions of the IT Department include:

1. Infrastructure Management which involves maintaining and upgrading hardware such as servers, workstations, networking equipment, and storage systems; overseeing cloud services and physical IT assets and; ensuring reliable connectivity and system uptime.

2. Software and Application Support relating to troubleshooting, software applications, and licenses. The Department provides support for specialized tools including HR systems, finance software, ERPS platforms, Treatment Plant operation system.

3. Cybersecurity and Data Protection, which includes the implementation of security protocols to protect against malware, phishing, and unauthorized access; managing firewalls, antivirus programs, and intrusion detection systems and; ensuring data privacy, backup, disaster recovery, and compliance with regulations.

4. User Support and Training makes provision for technical support to employees (helpdesk services); IT training and onboarding for new staff and digital literacy and safe IT practices across the organization.

5. Network and Communications Management, makes reference to the Team’s management of the LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi systems, and VPN access; the support for telecommunication, online platforms, email platforms, VoIP, and other communication tools; and the seamless collaboration across locations given that WASCO’s offices, Treatment Plants and Depots are located throughout the island.

6. Strategic Planning and Innovation aligns the IT Department’s goals with organizational objectives and allows the team to evaluate and recommend emerging technologies and digital transformation initiatives to improve operations.

7. Data Management and Analytics is another core function of the IT Department. This ensures that WASCO’s data is stored and managed securely to enable data-driven decision-making.
